Hokey Pokies

‘HOKEY POKIES’ is a social drama/ satire about Janine, a street kid desperate to change the direction of her life. Constantly on the run, she decides to settle temporarily in Sydney, taking a job as a bar useful at an RSL club. Her best friend Simon, also a street kid, tags along for the ride eventually digging himself into deep trouble as time goes by.

The story paints a satirical picture of the work-life at a traditional RSL Club, which allows for a lot of laughs along the way.

With the past seemingly behind her, Janine performs exceptionally well at the RSL and is promoted to supervisor. Simon moves to Western Australia and ends up on the streets again. His eventual demise serves to strengthen more than ever Janine’s hopes to save her own life.

Janine accidentally unravels a major fraud at the RSL and diligently proceeds to report it; sadly she is forced into silence through blackmail. She grapples for her final shot at redemption tackling head on the choice to act lawfully or unlawfully. Her decision changes her life in the worst and best way.
