VEGEMITE KEBAB

‘VEGEMITE KEBAB’ is a social drama about a 20 year old protagonist who has grown up in the Sutherland Shire. Sarah is a poster child for The Shire. A true-blue beach babe and extremely prejudiced, though oddly a little dark in complexion. Sarah has a past that she doesn’t even know about.

Set during the Cronulla Riots of 2004 Sarah’s world turns upside down after witnessing a violent beating on that dark December afternoon. What follows is debilitating panic attacks that keep Sarah out of uni and forces her to miss out on her dream Internship as a news presenter at a prestigious television station.

Months later she returns to uni and reluctantly accepts an Internship assisting a freelance journalist with a documentary about Lebanese migrants and their reaction to the riots. Begrudged, Sarah must listen to countless stories about the horrific Lebanese Civil War and suddenly she struggles with a severe case of eczema. The condition worsens and she winds up in hospital where complications follow and her illness becomes life threatening.

Suddenly secrets from the past come to haunt her when her father accidentally let slip she is adopted. The pandemonium spirals out of control when her parent’s reveal she was orphaned at three when her birth parents were killed in their homeland during the Lebanese Civil War. Sarah discovers she is her own enemy.

Sarah is dangerously ill when she finally accepts that her condition is symptomatic of deep seated trauma. To survive, Sarah must confront and unravel horrific sufferings from the past.
